The Procedure
Most hair transplantation procedures will take place in the morning. The procedure will last between 3 and 5 hours. The variations in the duration being dependent on the number of grafts to be transplanted which is further dependent on the size of the area to be transplanted with new follicular units.
Before the hair transplantation procedure, you will be asked to eat early and wash your hair. If you are planning to give your hair a chemical treatment, it is important to do it a week in advance before the Hair Transplant. Before the actual operation commences, a professional photographer will take pictures of your hair. This is not for marketing purposes for those “before and after” pictures. Rather, these will be used in accurately documenting the progress of the hair restoration process.
First Phase: Patient Preparation
This stage simply involves putting you at ease and making you comfortable before the hair transplantation process. You will be offered some drinks and snacks and allowed to relax in a comfortable seated position. You can be offered an assortment of movies that you can watch during the hair transplantation process.
Second Phase: The anesthesia and donor hair removal
Here you will be anesthetized with the use of a local anesthetic to eliminate any pain or discomfort during the hair grafting process. Once the area to be operated bone has completely numbed, the donor hair will be removed using FUE or FUT techniques depending on the technique that the hair transplantation clinic specializes in.
In the case of FUT, the donor area will be sutured and closed. The tissue that has been removed will then be dissected very carefully by the hair transplant surgeon in order to extract the follicular units.
Third Phase: – Donor hair dissection
This is one of the most critical steps during the hair transplant procedure if the process is being carried out by FUT. This will involve the very precise cutting of the graft so that they can fit into the recipient sites. It is important that they fit into precise without any compression or fitting. In the FUE procedure, this process is not necessary as the follicular units are extracted individually. This is why the FUE procedure is usually a very efficient and very painless transplant procedure. Most modern Hair Transplantation Clinics now offer the FUE hair transplant procedure.
Fourth Phase: The Recipient Site
This involves the preparation of the recipient site which has the thinning hair. In the FUE hair extraction technique, this must be prepared in advance before the actual hair extraction begins. Small incisions will be made in this thinning area using a very fine needle-point instrument. This will form the new hairline. The grafts are subsequently inserted into these tiny incisions.
Fifth Phase: The Recovery
The area where the grafts have been placed will remain numb for a couple of more days. In the case of the FUT procedure, expect to feel some tightness in the area that has been sutured. The Professional Hair Transplantation centres will also provide you with a very detailed post-operative care to ensure your quick recovery after the transplant procedure.
